Printing TechniquePrinted with the superior Giclee printing process.(Giclee, French noun pronounced "Zee Clay" meaning to spray or squirt. )The Giclee printing process represents the highest technology available today and creates a museum quality print which is indistinguishable from theoriginal work of art. Unlike standard digital printing process, Giclee printing does not utilize small dots of pigment, which can create a grainy effect. A Giclee print utilizes highly accurate computer controlled jets to apply ink to various media from canvas to textured paper. These jets vary the width of the ink stream to as small as 1/100 the width of a human hair yielding a photo perfect product with higher resolution than offset printing and a superior dynamic color range than serigraphy. A Giclee print is more expensive than other forms of photographic and digital printing techniques and if used on a archival paper will create a beautiful, archive quality print totally faithful to the original work. Most artist limited edition prints today are created with the Giclee process.
Paper(Somerset Velvet Acid Free Paper)The image is printed on a heavy, fine art, archive quality, textured watercolor paper which receives the pigment in deep rich colors. Frame The frame is a high quality 2 inch wide hardwood with a veneer surface. This masculine yet elegant and sophisticated frame is perfect for the home or office. The burl texture has two colors: a darker brown on the edges and lighter mahogany in the center, which will complement any wood trim color. Outside frame size measurement is 31.5 in tall by 25.5 in wide.
Mattes The double matte utilizes a museum quality, conservation acid free, rag cotton matte board. The inner matte color is a subdued aqua marine blue greenwhich picks up the colors of the ocean and forests. The outer matte is a charcoal blue gray with a light weave pattern which subtly reflects the blue ocean color and showcases the map by visually bringing it forward.
GlassThe frame and print is covered with a high strength, low reflection, museum conservation glass cover which provides UV protection.
Engraved Plaques, Service Medallion, and Vietnam Service Ribbon There are three widows cut into the outer matte at the lower portion of the frame.The center window will contain a 1 3/4 inch painted bronze medallion of your branch of service and a Vietnam Service ribbon.The right window holds an engraved title plate which dedicates the monument, describes the bronze map, and the Giclee print.The left window contains your personal Vietnam service information, which will be requested in a confirmation email after order.For orders in which personal information is not required, the left window can contain anything of your choice or a plaque describing"Ha Long" the Vietnamese dragon.
Service Medallion SubstitutionThe frame matte has room for one medallion which is designed for your branch of service. However, I am always happy to accommodate any special order. The medallions used are purchased from Northwest Territorial Mint on their online store page which offers over 3,000 service related medallions and coins. If you have a preference for another medallion, just let me know and I will be happy to order it for your frame. As long as the substitute medallion is bronze and the cost is reasonably close, there is no extra charge for this customization. However, NWT does carry some fairly expensive gold and silver medallions which would require an extra charge to cover the cost. To fit the matte, the maximum size for a medallion or coin is 1 3/4 inch. For veteran organizations, I can also substitute medallions for American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
Engraved Personal Information Name PlaqueAfter you order, you will receive a confirmation email which will ask for your personal assignment information. The name plate is 2.75 inches tall and 3.75 inches wide, which is large enough to accommodate most information for multiple tours. The sample photo below is just an example for an Air Force Pilot; there is no set format. My Engraver uses a computer operated engraving machine which can adjust the size of font and spacing on the screen to fit the text proportionally in the space available. Once you send me your personal assignment information, I will send you back a sample of your plaque for your approval or editing.The plaque is a polished brass plaque with a black coating, which when engraved will yield an easy to read, elegant, gold colored, etched text.

About the Artist
James Nance graduated from the US Air Force Academy in 1971 and served as a C-141 pilot with the US Air Force based at McChord AFB Washington. From 1972 until 1975 Jim flew approximately 100 missions into Southeast Asia and Vietnam while staging from Clark AB Philippines. In February 1973 Jim was assigned as a co pilot on the second flight into Hanoi in "Operation Homecoming" to repatriate the American POWS and in 1975 as an aircraft commander he participated in the chaotic evacuation of Saigon and the baby lift.
After leaving the service in 1977 Jim flew briefly in Alaska on the pipeline construction and then began a 30 year career with the airline, retiring early from Northwest Airlines in 2007 to pursue a full time monumental bronze sculpture business. In addition to flying, Jim has been sculpting portraits and figures for 30 years. Creating the bronze map of Vietnam, was a exciting challenge which combined science and art and required him to rely on his piloting experience, knowledge of maps, his familiarity with Southeast Asia topography, and his bronze sculpting experience.
